Massachusetts Emergency Service Unit
Overview
MESU is a team of volunteer professionals of all ages and backgrounds, serving Massachusetts and surrounding states by responding to and working with other SAR organizations as well as state and local departments in the event of an emergency.
MESU members all hold full time jobs and train on weekends and evenings, as well as being on-call 24hrs for emergency and non-emergency needs.
MESU members present themselves as low key and professional during all incidents. All members must be willing to assist in whatever needs the Incident Command requests.
Our members are medically trained as First Responders, E.M.T.'s and Paramedics. All are CPR, AED, and EPI-PEN certified.
MESU is a technical rescue team utilizing ropes, carabiners, figure eight descenders and other specialized equipment to facilitate high angle, low angle and confined space rescue.
MESU is not state or federally funded. We do not accept money from the families or the communities we serve. Any money or donations from organizations will be used for needed supplies such as picture ID’s, first aid supplies, postage, outfitting, equipment or any other expenses the team will incur. Funding will also be used to defer the cost of trainings from outside organizations such as NEWSAR, and to pay any state or local fees as required by law. Members are responsible for the purchase of their own uniforms and equipment.
MESU is working on plans to join North East Wilderness Search and Rescue (NEWSAR). This will enable us to set better training standards, work with the State Police more easily, and collaborate with other SAR teams around the state. The focus of our group is to provide assistance and medical attention in the event of a rescue situation that requires our specialized skills.
